RBI Releases New Rs. 50 Currency Note, Old Note To Continue
After new Rs. 2000 denomination note, RBI has announced to release a new Rs. 50 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.
This new Rs. 50 note will be in fluorescent blue color and slightly smaller and slimmer than the existing note. However, RBI has also clarified that all earlier notes will also continue to be legal tender.
The dimensions of these new notes will be 66mm x 135mm. Besides this, they have introduced a unique feature on these notes: the Motif of Hampi with the chariot and the Swachh Bharat logo with the slogan on the reverse side.
This announcement came after an image of the new note was started doing the rounds on social media. However, they still haven’t talked about Rs. 200 note. While, according to the Navroze Dastur, CEO, NCR India – “If the Rs 50 note has to be dispensed from ATMs there will have to be separate cassettes for new and old notes.”
